Constrictor Team

Constrictor Team is a family-led Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Luta Livre, and Judo team, spearheaded by Master Ataíde Ludgero Junior alongside his sons, Third Degree Black Belt Ian Lucas Ludgero and Kim Ludgero. With roots tracing back to Grandmaster Armando Wriedt—one of Helio Gracie's earliest black belts and a red belt Master—the team carries a profound legacy in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and martial arts.

Originally established as Ataíde Junior Top Team, the group focused on dominating Jiu Jitsu tournaments while occasionally competing in “Vale-Tudo” (the precursor to modern MMA). During this time, the effectiveness of a unique Jiu Jitsu style, later known as Constrictor Jiu Jitsu, was demonstrated.

This distinct style was developed by Master Ataíde Junior, inspired by his background as a biologist and reptile keeper. Drawing from the efficient, non-venomous hunting techniques of constrictor snakes, the system emphasizes pressure, control, and strategy—proven highly effective in Jiu Jitsu, MMA, and other grappling arts such as Luta Livre and Judo.

As MMA evolved into a globally recognized sport, the team embraced the shift. In 2003, the group was renamed Constrictor Team and began competing on larger stages. By 2005, the team gained international recognition when Rani Yahya secured victory in Japan with a signature North-South choke, a hallmark of Constrictor Jiu Jitsu.

Today, Constrictor Team is represented by world-class athletes in premier organizations such as the UFC, ONE Championship, and Shooto Brazil. Notable names include Rani Yahya, Renato Moicano, Paulo Thiago, Francisco Trinaldo, Luigi Vendramini, and Adriano Moraes (former ONE Flyweight Champion). Additionally, the team boasts numerous champions from prestigious Latin American promotions, such as Jungle Fight and Shooto Brazil.

Beyond producing champions, Constrictor Team is built on a foundation of discipline, respect, and integrity—values that are essential to martial arts philosophy. Alongside Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the team incorporates Luta Livre and Judo techniques, offering a comprehensive approach to grappling and combat sports.

As a family-led organization, Constrictor Team benefits from the combined expertise and dedication of the Ludgero family. Master Ataíde Ludgero Junior, together with his sons Ian and Kim Ludgero, ensures that the team maintains its tradition of excellence while fostering a supportive and respectful environment for all athletes.

Constrictor Team Australia, led by Third Degree Black Belt Ian Ludgero, upholds this legacy. Ian brings exceptional expertise and leadership, ensuring the team’s traditions and values are carried forward on an international scale.
